I’m curious if this is a problem others have or if it’s just me. I’ve been using TaxCycle for close to two years now and I love it. But probably 9 times out of 10 when I run an update I get an error. It says:
Update Failed. The update could not be applied. An unexpected error occurred. The update was rolled back.
And then after I get this error, when I open TaxCycle again, I get the error:
TaxCycle is configured to use the Client Manger Server ‘Amy TaxCycle Server’ on Amy, but this server is either unreachable or has stopped.
No, I have not contacted TaxCycle about this, I know I should, as they are awesome and very responsive, but instead I always put off updates until I have time to deal with this. Usually if I run it a second time it works, but I am curious, is it just me?
I’ve been using it for over a decade, and only had that happen a handful of times. I’d say it’s something with your system, and you should contact support.
I’ve had the first one happen a bunch of times when I have been working on the files, close the file, then get a prompt and then try to update. It doesn’t seem to happen when I do a direct update.
I second calling support, they are great at resolving tech issues like the one you’re having with the client manager! Maybe I should call in for support too about the update fails?
Is “Amy” the same computer as the one you are running/updating TaxCycle? If not, that could explain the second error - ensure the “Amy” computer is turned on and visible on the network. If yes, verify that the TaxCycle server is properly configured and running. If the server is configured under a different Windows user account, log into that account to ensure it is accessible (sometimes the network credentials get cleared by a Windows update - logging in to the user account will usually reset them).
