You can change the label for print jobs:
My reasoning for entering dates is that I have clients who give me copies of previous years receipts. The dates give me a quick reference to validate that the receipt was already claimed (or not claimed).
For complex medical where there are multiple reimbursements from insurance providers, I enter the medical receipts in Excel, then each of the reimbursements, to figure out if there are still residual amounts left to claim on taxes. I often give the client a copy of my spreadsheet to help them understand why Iâm not claiming a higher amount as many clients donât do the math.
Those are all good reasons. If I have a client with a complex series of medical expenses, Iâll detail it in Excel like you outlined. Then I put one line in the T1 medical expense summary for the total and attach the Excel file to that cell on the T1. Attaching files like that is a great feature of the program.
Being new to TaxCycle, I hadnât thought about linking the excel file to the Medical line. Great idea, Kevin! I just tried it (drag and drop) and it works great. Canât figure out how to remove the excel file if you decide you donât want it linked (short of closing the file without saving).
The other thing I havenât figured out yet is on the medical Description category, if you make a typo in that line, that typo stays in the history for that particular client. I havenât figured out how to clear that history.
Iâll have to watch more of those TaxCycle videos after tax season to get more of these tips!
To remove the attachment, just hover your mouse over the cell; one of the options will be to remove the attachment. I hope this shortens your tax season a bit. As for deleting descriptions you donât want to keep (and we all have them), click on the down arrow in the cell, scroll down with your mouse to the description you want to delete, and click on the âxâ at the right side of that line.
Not sure if it something to do with my resolution but I cannot see the âxâ for deletion.
I usually go into the files that store the entries to clean up.
I wouldnât say it stands-out but I can see it if I pause my mouse on the line item. Maybe your screen brightness is not high enough?
I looked again. Definitely no âxâ.
I would be curious to know if I am alone in this?
Thatâs odd. I donât see anything in the options for this setting.
So Arliss where are they stored?
Iâm with Arliss ⌠I also donât see the âxâ to delete the description entries.
When I use my arrow keys to select a description, a dotted box is shown around the description name, but no âXâ is visible to delete it even when I change my monitor resolution.
However, with a bit of hunting, I found the file where these descriptions are stored:
C:\Users<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Trilogy\TaxCycle\Typing\
Here, you will find the file which can be opened in a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++ and edited to remove the descriptors you donât want.
NB: Youâll have to close TaxCycle before making the file changes. When you re-open the program, the changes should be visible.
MedicalExpenseDescription.typing
I couldnât have said it better. Really.
I can see and have used the option that Kevin has mentioned.
For me; if I am in the Medical Expense Worksheet and my cursor is either in a âPayment toâ or âDescriptionâ cell, on the right hand side of that particular cell I see a small grey downward pointing triangle that turns black when my mouse is on it. If I click on that triangle the list of Descriptions or Names display in a drop down box that says âType to Filter Listâ.
If I take my mouse and hover over (highlight) any of those names in the drop down list, at the end of the name I see a circle with a âgrey xâ inside. This appears in the very right of the cell, right at the slider bar. If I hover my mouse over that âgrey xâ it turns red. If I click on the red x the entry disappears.
I suppose if you donât see that circle with the grey x at the end of the line in the drop down box try clicking your mouse near the very right hand side of whatever particular entry you want to delete. Maybe even if the red x doesnât light up, you might still be able to delete the entry anyway.
I would take a screenshot but I canât capture a screenshot with that highlighted because the option disappears as soon as you move your mouse off the line you want to delete.
I follow what you are saying but I still cannot see or use that function.
I bet the little âxâ is there but it appears for whatever reason that it is off to the right beyond where I can access. I do run Taxcycle regularly on a portrait monitor but even when I put on a landscape oriented monitor I still cannot see the âxâ.
When I use the arrow keys, and use ALT arrow down, I donât see the x. But when I use the mouse and click the downward pointing triangle on the right and hover over an entry, I do see the x. It turns red when you move the mouse over the x.
Thanks Wayne. I was starting to think I had a special version of TaxCycle just for me. I was able to get a screenshot of the drop down list showing the âxâ.
Iâm with Arliss on this one. My version has NO option for the Red âXâ, and clicking on the right side does not delete it. Iâm guessing it must be a setting in my configurations that is disabled. Iâll have to hunt for it during the off-season when things slow down.
I have (I think) figured it out. In the Options, click on Return Preparation. The screen includes the following. I have my setting on âFullâ. I changed it to âDrop-downâ and when I went to the Medical Expense Summary and clicked the drop-down arrow, I got my list but there was no âxâ to delete an entry. Iâm not sure what the big difference is between those two choices other than being able to delete an entry by using âFullâ.
Nope. Doesnât resolve the issue, Kevin.
My setting was already on FULL. I changed it to the Drop Down option, but no difference.
Reset it back to FULL. They even have a shortcut in those options to take you directly to the file location where these are stored, so thatâs a plus. Perhaps itâs because Iâve only registered the TaxCycle T1 this year (didnât register T2, etc, or DoxCycle).
ie: perhaps that functionality is part of another aspect of TaxCycle and as long as youâve paid a license fee for that other functionality, the function flows back to the T1 too?
Thatâs funny. It made that one difference on mine. I give up.
