I finally had to cancel the current update as it was simply taking FAR too long. Not quite sure why these are continuing to be incredibly slow (Win 2016 Server on Azure) but it’s not a lot of fun waiting…patiently.
How long do your updates take on average? This particular one seemed to hang on “running program” (whatever that means) and stayed there for well over 5 minutes until I cancelled it. Will restart the entire server and reapply update and see.
Are you talking about the download or the installation? The software is now over a GB to download, so that may take some time. Once downloaded I find the installation is generally less than 5 minutes.
Installation. I have fibre and it downloads in about 15 seconds…and took 15 MINUTES to install a full copy of the latest update.
I downloaded at my home office where we have Eastlink cable. Their advertised speeds are 100/10. I doubt if it took a minute to download, I just let it go and check the news on my phone. The whole process was over in a few minutes. In the city we have Bell Fibe which is “guaranteed” to be 1.5G/0.5G, but the difference between Bell and Eastlink is negligible. I’m using a Lenovo T-580 from 2018, and it’s been a workhorse.
What I do have a problem with is CaseWare with the 2023 templates. It just takes a painfully long time to close a file. Doesn’t matter if it’s being compressed or not, nor whether it’s a review or compilation. I have 16G of RAM, but I don’t think that’s the problem. Besides, the cost to get to 64 or 128 is prohibitive.
So, I’ve had no issues with the download or installation.
