Invoice Can not be generated without First name in Tax return

As per latest CRA’s notification, we can or we have to file tax return without First name as per their SIN document, so the problem is we cannot generate Invoice/billing in TaxCycle, if tax return file does not have first name.

@minugarg123 We are aware of the issues with our template handling of files without the first name. Thank you for bringing the issue to our attention.

I would appreciate help deciding how we should handle these cases where there is no first name. Would you be willing to answer a question for me?

When I look at an invoice without a first name right now, it displays like this:

I’m wondering if you could tell me how we should display the name in these cases?

  • Mr. LastName
  • Mr. NickName LastName
  • LastName
  • something else?

Once I know what is the correct way to handle this, I could possibly provide a custom template for you to use this season with the intention of fixing it permanently across our templates for next season.

Maybe “LastName Family” would be a good one? Or “M. LastName” That way there’s no assumption of gender of pronouns as the M could be for Mr or Ms etc. We frequently leave the gender and Mr/Ms/Mrs out so as not to marginalize.

Haus of LastName? LOL

It looks like the CRA forgot me - I did not receive any information about these invoice requirement. Would someone please email me the CRA notification - Thank you, Klaus Theyer, Exact Tax Service, etservice1978@gmail.com

It is a tricky one. I’m trying to fix up the salutations but be more inclusive. The joint salutation is proving a challenge, but we’ll see what we can do.

This issue is with people from some countries that don’t use the last name on their passport. In this case, the Canadian immigration department writes their first and middle name as their family name and leaves the first and middle name fields empty. Then Service Canada copies this on their SIN document. Now, if we select the client’s last (Family) name with Mr. in the front, it will be their first and middle name.
For example, if Gurmeet Singh has an Indian passport showing no family name, then his SIN document will show only his last name as “Gurmeet Singh.”

Yes, Thats the most of cases are…

Mr. LastName

Thank you @msbuttar and @minugarg123 I appreciate the advice.

I have done some initial work on the invoices. This won’t make it into the next release, as it needs further testing, but if anyone wants to try out the handling of the names on the invoices, you can download the attached templates , and install them using these instructions. (It’s easy to delete the files later, once we release an update so you can stay on the built-in templates.)

FInvoice.taxcycletemplate (15.4 KB)
JInvoice.taxcycletemplate (16.3 KB)
