I have the SIN card and it matches and I also have access to the account using the name I am filing on; however, efile help is no help but I am going to call again and see if I can get a more experienced person.
The solution they gave me is to paper file. I know some people want to go back to last century but I did not think CRA was one of them.
Yes, I had that problem for the first time this year, also on a first-time filer. The solution is you have to put in the FULL middle name, not just an initial. In my case, “D” was not enough, I had to put in “Dale”.
I use whatever I find on the prior notice of assessment, or whatever other CRA correspondence I have. Whatever you do, it has to match whatever CRA has on file. No sense typing out a name if CRA has an initial. If client can’t supply required docs, it’s goodbye.
I don’t know if this is a way to bypass it, I did a few for client’s children who never filed tax before. used the SIN card name and did the auto rep, and I was able gain access to their CRA account that shows nothing of course, but I would be able to e file their returns
It seems if an employer has issued a T4, before the taxpayer has filed a tax retun for the first time, and the name used was somewhat different than the SIN document, difficulties arise in trying to EFile.
It’s crazy, I had a client, her return was done via paper filing by the previous accountant, and her first and last name was reversed. CRA updated her name according to the paper return, so I had to get the NOA to get the proper “wrong” name to get the auth rep done and efile done. And there’s no way for me to change it
