Invalid SIN

Client last filed by me 2014 return, using Taxprep. Switched to Taxcycle for 2015. Double clicked old return. Taxcycle rolled forward to 2015. Yay! Sure I filed T1013 back then. Logged into CRA, says invalid SIN. Checked with client, reads same SIN off his card. Guess I’ll be on long hold tomorrow. At least I can spread that time over ten years of returns.

2014? Did you mean 2024?

Their Auth for you could have expired or been cancelled.

Note: “Starting July 15, 2025, in alignment with the above improvement, the current Authorize a Representative service in EFILE software will no longer be available for Individuals. As a result, you will need to use Represent a Client to obtain access. However, it is important to note that this change will not impact authorization requests submitted through EFILE for Business clients.”

2014, really. I seem to get a few of these. Maybe they think there’s a volume discount – not!

Really? I always do… taking into account it’s not 10 different meetings.. based on workload.. I always tell them it’s their reward for getting caught up with cra

I don’t advertise, only by referrals, biz has grown considerably over my 25 years ( 1 person peactice).

We all run our businesses how we want… that is the major advantage to being our own boss !

Represent a Client will kick out that message when you no longer have RAC access for that client. As Allan mentioned likely your access for that client has expired over the years.

In typical CRA fashion “Rep02 - Invalid Social Insurance Number” is misleading. It doesn’t really mean the SIN number is invalid.

Perhaps a more accurate message should be “Rep02 - You don’t have authorization for this SIN”

If you were to go into your RAC Profile and select “Individuals that have authorized this RepID” you can check to see if that particular client is in your database of clients. I’m guessing this client is no longer in there.
