Upload death certificate and will through RAC

Has CRA removed the ability to do this or just moved it and I can’t find it?

I’ve had 2 clients skip out of next year’s fee by dying on me. Same here. I’ve resorted to faxing the will, death certificate, probate documents. For a new trust created, I faxed the estate inventory. There aren’t enough options in CRA’s list. So, if you haven’t got a case number, or your document doesn’t fit one of their choices, you’re supposed to mail it. So, I fax, usually after midnight when their fax isn’t busy, get my fax confirmation, scan & save the whole thing, and wait for the fallout next year. I tried submitting an authorization for a new trust, and it gets rejected brcause the account doesn’t exist. Well, I generated the trust number, I efiled the initial trust return, I mailed the cheque for its tax, but yet, it doesn’t exist. It’s like Trump staring facts in the face and saying they don’t exist. I could explain this to my 8-year old granddaughters and they’d agree, it’s frustrating.

I remember trying to navigate through this mess a few weeks ago after applying for a trust number, but I think I was eventually successful in uploading the documents.

The first step was to apply for a trust number (Trust Account Registration)
Once I received the account number (T434…) for the estate the online registration process indicated that supporting documents must be uploaded. If I recall clicking on the “submit supporting documents” seemed to send me into CRA website oblivion.

Becoming a bit frustrated, what I ended up doing is logging into RAC and doing the following;

From your main RAC screen (not logged into a client), I did the following after clicking on “Submit Documents” along the left hand side options;

  • Submit Documents
  • Update to owner/legal representative/executor/trustee
  • Submit documents to add or modify the legal representative/trustee for trusts
  • Trust Account Number (that I had just been issued)

I uploaded the documents and received a confirmation that now included a Case/reference number.

I have attached the pdf confirmation that I received.

While I’m not sure this is the correct procedure, the documents were uploaded to the CRA via Represent a Client, and I received both a confirmation number and Case/reference number for the documents.

I went through the same process and now I try to get all the upload information together, apply for the Trust account number, and then upload the Will, death certificate, etc. CRA doesn’t make it clear and if you want to upload something later, well, good luck. Also, has anyone here EVER been able to get on-line access for an estate?

I don’t need a trust number as everything was transferred to spouse. I just uploaded this for a different client a few months ago so I’m surprised I can’t now. I googled it and Revenue Canada’s site says you can upload through RAC. Must be a recent change.

I had a client try for 2 years to put me on as a representative to a deceased client and it was a shit show
I haven’t bothered on trust they can talk to us or they can talk to the executors
If they are not in their system no one is approaved and their process is too long as far as I am concerned

I have online access for a couple of estates. One of them seems OK and I can see the “usual stuff” but for the other one (happens to be my mother’s), there is absolutely nothing - there is no indication on RAC that anything was ever filed so very glad to have my hard copy Notices/statements!

From the overview page of your rep a client account select submit documents, start button. The client type option you want to choose is “Update to owner/legal representative/executor/trustee”

I don’t see that under personal tax or under other.
