I am experiencing a limit for the number of characters that can by typed into the Part C box for new Sch 15. CRA’s fillable form automatically expands to allow unlimited text here. Can this be fixed?
The limit on the form is 1,000 characters (including spaces) which we got from the limit that can be transmitted through T3 EFILE. We wouldn’t want to allow more and leave you thinking that it was all sent to CRA.
I tried the fillable form and it will not allow more than 1000 characters either. I see no way to make it expand. Part B will duplicate as many times as you need but not Part C.
However, we would like to know how much text you want to enter so we can ask CRA if they can increase that limit to some degree. They may have set 1,000 for a starting point and would consider increasing it next year based on feedback.
Thanks for replying so quickly Allen. I am working with a complex trust that lists several classes of contingent beneficiaries, and I would like to copy/paste most of the language directly from the trust deed. In this case Word tells me I have 1889 characters including spaces. It was interesting to note that their fillable pdf form allows me to paste all this in without any problem! when I do that it takes up less than half a page (the font on that form is pretty small)
just noticed you had a different experience with the fillable form. I will redact some names and paste an image so you can see. Note: I had to move the cursor out of the field in order for the it to show the expanded text.
