I’ve had two clients this week ask me to get them copies of their Notices of Assessment for their bankers. When I went into RAC, I couldn’t see the actual 2022 Notice of Assessment for one client and the 2022 and 2023 Notices of Assessment for the other client. I thought it was a one-off yesterday and I called CRA. I was told that because the client’s 2022 T1 assessment was electronically issued (because they were signed up for electronic mail), it wasn’t posted to RAC.
I’m assuming this is an issue with the new changes CRA made to the Represent a Client service last weekend because I haven’t seen this before. When I called CRA, they suggested that I can use the version you get by clicking under the “Status” heading in the Tax Returns section. Fine, but the traditional Notice of Assessment includes comments that are not in the other version. Sometimes those comments can explain changes to the assessment or includes other information.
I will never recommend another client sign up for electronic mail with CRA. They are now using that to provide even less information to the accountant who prepared and filed the return. VERY FRUSTRATING!
EDIT - I guess the only option we have is the Express Notice of Assessment to get any commentary. I was under the impression that the Express NOA was not supposed to be counted on as the final version. Has this changed?
