Can anyone tell me the significance of the “Are returns for prior years being filed at the same time as the 2015 return?” message found on the Info screen?

Hi Mike,

This is to indicate that prior year return(s) are being filed as well…this is submitted as part of the Efile data - CRA then uses this information to flag either processing order of the tax returns/multiple returns will be submitted.

Would this also be applicable if the prior year return was getting amended / Refiled ?

My comments…
It could not hurt to indicate multiple year filing when using ReFile and eFile.

It may help in the following ways:

  1. Update RRSP contribution room.
  2. Update carryfwd amounts
  3. Process amounts due and refund claims in the correct order.

Prior year: I must have gotten the meaning wrong. I thought it meant that you are filing the current and prior year at the same time?!
