GST Return

Hi Jim

I did get it sorted and I’m finding it pretty useful! I’ve attached them as snippets, but I just input the code directly into the letter as for some reason I’m getting extra lines under the snippet that I can’t work out how to remove… A few notes though:

  • There are two versions - one for the engagement letter and one for the client letter. The ELetter version states whether or not you are filing the return. The CLetter includes the balance owing or refund (add the amount as -ve in the custom field for it to show as a refund).
  • I only wanted it to add into the letter if the client has a business. I’m sure it’s possible to do this based on whether there is a T2125 (and support actually sent me some suggestions), but I haven’t had time to work this out. I’ve just gone with a custom field where Yes = Has Business.
  • I had a weird issue in that I had to use open/close tags for a custom field for each condition which is why it looks like I’ve repeated it lots! If I only use one open/close around the whole code it didn’t seem to work for some reason.
  • TaxCycle wouldn’t let me attach the fields as a CSV so this file will probably need to be converted before you import the fields, or you can make them manually:

I don’t think it’s the most elegant so please let me know if you make it simpler! I’ve also used this in our T2 letters, although without the “HasBusiness” field and codes!

Thanks Rebecca! I’ve added your custom fields (and a few others like “HasCommRent”) to catch some edge use clients of mine. Works VERY slick!

I made the letter segments into snippets and linked them in to my CLetters, and used the “HasBusiness” and “HasCommRent” to change my Eletters from “Income tax return” to “Income tax and GST returns” throughout the letters.

I feel very proud of the new letters :sunglasses::nerd_face:
