Error code 2038

Couple separated during the year. I separated their files in Taxcycle. One return efiled no issue. In the accepted return, Taxcycle pulled over the ex spouse income and included in on the S5.
The other return I am getting error code 2038 (Line 30300 of the return for the spouse or common-law partner amount cannot differ from the maximum allowable). Taxcycle wants to claim the spousal amount but should not be (income too high). I overrode the claim on the S5 when preparing the return but it was rejected. So then, I overrode the ex-spouse income on the S5 (can not figure out where this could be pulling from) but still rejected.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like you didn’t delete the spouse info out of the info page after you separated them

Spouse info is gone on both.

Did you do the returns with them still joined and then separated them and deleted the info? I’m just wondering if there’s something naggingly small leftover that didn’t get wipe that is auto-calculating?

That’s a thought. I separated them. Saved them separate. Then completed.

I think you might need to send the files to TaxCycle and have them investigate. That’s a bizarre one!

Update - finally had time to call the help desk today. They indicate that the error code is because he has not updated his marital status with CRA. Advised to have him call and get it changed and then return should be accepted.
