Download of tax slisp

In my experience at this point in the year, about 80% of the clients tax slips are available for download from CRA. This year about 30% are currently there which is very frustrating. I know there have been issues with the capital gains debacle, but this is getting very difficult to finalise any returns. Even T4’s are missing.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks.

TONS not uploaded on AFR…not a one from TD Bank for instance.

How are we supposed to work like this??

I am seeing few the other ways. client brought physical copy of the slips, I did the AFR, and informed them lots of slips downloaded from CRA, they are saying the bank made mistakes, those were duplicated, wrong etc…And they showed me the email from the bank acknowledged that. If I filed the returns with the slips that they think are accurate, the return will be held, for sure, and CRA might automatically adjust the return by including all the slips received, but the bank didn’t specify when the issues will be fixed on their end. so, I am holding on to those few returns for now

I am holding back about 90% of my returns at this point

It’s like going back to 1991!

What absolutely STUNS me is the complete silence from all the professional organizations, lobby groups and others…just…crickets.

I think it’s just too much to update in a short span of time. it’s becoming a trend, UHT, we did the same, attended seminars, meetings, and changed last minute, then the trust reporting, the same thing, and this year is the capital gain, next year could be something else

It is ridiculous… clients are in refunds and want to file.. they do not have slips, AFR does not have slips. UGH

Some employers are asking employees to get their T4s from their online payroll system.. which some of my clients can’t figure out how to do… so they are asking others to do it for them.

Some big employers are still not on AFR… Investments.. well I suppose we will all be doing some Adjustments at a later date or fielding questions from clients whom have been reassessed.

Not a great year… I have not had any clients excited about June 2… if they owe monies.. they want to pay it now and they don’t seem to trust the new deadline because it is not all over the “Front Page” so to speak.

Has anyone done a year over year study of suicide rates among tax preparers?

From Chatgtp:
Has anyone done a year over year study of suicide rates among tax preparers? No,

Specific annual suicide rates for Canadian tax preparers from 2019 to the present are not publicly available. Detailed occupational suicide statistics are typically aggregated into broader categories, making it challenging to obtain data for specific professions like tax preparers.

However, studies have examined suicide rates across various occupation groups. For instance, a 2021 report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) presented suicide rates by occupation in the United States. While Canadian data may differ, this report provides a general perspective on occupational suicide rates. According to the CDC, certain occupation groups, such as arts, design, entertainment, sports, and media, have higher suicide rates compared to the general population. CDC

In Canada, the National Suicide Prevention Action Plan acknowledges that certain occupational groups, including public safety personnel, first responders, and farmers, may be at higher risk for suicide-related behaviors. However, it does not specifically mention tax preparers. Canada.ca+1Canada.ca+1

It’s important to note that suicide rates can be influenced by various factors, including economic conditions, access to mental health support, and societal changes. For example, a study projected that during the COVID-19 pandemic, suicide rates in Canada would decrease despite an increase in unemployment. This finding was attributed to government interventions, such as financial support and enhanced mental health services. News-Medical

Given the lack of specific data for Canadian tax preparers, it’s crucial to promote mental health awareness and support within all professions. If you or someone you know is struggling, resources like the 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline are available 24/7 across Canada.

Which Bank?

Haven’t seen anything from TD or TD Wealth. Some from RBC but only interest…nothing else.

Any one seen a T5 from Tangerine Bank. The account was closed in December, so no online access.

I have Tangerine accounts. When I go online, they say if your interest was less than $50, they won’t be issuing a slip, but you are supposed to claim it anyway???

I have no slips because most of my $$ is in TFSA.

Pat

I have nothing on AFR for NS Provincial employees and most financial inst. T5’s. One client actually went to the local RBC to get a print out of her T5 because she didn’t one in the mail yet and nothing on CRA. And it was for nearly $500!!!

Pat

Have a client who uploaded receipt to my portal March 18th

I thought the cutoff was higher than $50. Regardless, you’re supposed to report your income whether you got a slip or not. I got a T5 from AFR yesterday from Scotiabank for $1.11. And, for years I’ve been getting a T4RIF for a client from Tangerine for $0.04. Yup.

Ditto - what a mess. Who has time for this!!

Bob WK Hamilton has time. He’s the Commissioner at CRA and he should get an earful (but nobody bothers…so it continues). Sigh.

A lot of slips are missing. Even T4A(OAS) forms are missing even though T4AP was mailed out in January. Also the issue of duplicate slips being uploaded to CRA
