I just updated to 16.0.63993.0 and to my great annoyance, “Quick search and filters” refuses to move to the left side. They’ve always done that..but now although there’s a selection to do so…no joy.
It is unclear whether this is a bug, a design change or just…something else. The option is still there…it just doesn’t appear to do anything.
Also, there used to be a “Make changes to xxyy Options”…this prevented accidental changes. That also appears to be gone.
There doesn’t appear to be anything in the Release Notes about either (which, FWIW, also didn’t open from the link underneath the download location in TC but which did open from the News section).
I believe it was a banner at the top of the Options Profile starting page. Otherwise one could just scroll through and look, but needed to click that to actually make a defined change.
Both start within TaxCycle, as shown, and lead to a web page; one is in the newsline feed, the other below the Download link. The latter one link opens, but the link there just repeats the same page. The other – in the regular newsline feed – works fine.
If you click on the link on the Start screen, it opens a filtered list of all the news items tagged with release notes. If you then click on the release notes tag, it’s just going to reload this page, which is how it has always worked.
However, if you open a release notes page and then scroll to the bottom, then click on the release notes tag, it will take you back to that filtered page:
This is how it has always worked, so it didn’t change in this release. The opportunity here is to perhaps change the heading on the filtered list of news items to clarify that it will only show release notes in that list.
Well I can’t speak to the “that’s how it alwyas has worked part”, but IMO having a link like this: News - TaxCycle with a link to “Release Notes” that doesn’t actually lead to … Release Notes…is illogical and bad UI design.
It forces the user to go to a totally different location to actually get the Release Notes.
I had never accessed the release notes using that link previously but I did after seeing your post and my first thought was - that can’t be right - so I guess I would agree it seems a bit clumsy and odd.
I think Elizabeth was trying to explain that the button (on the web page) saying “release notes” is not a link - it’s just a hard-coded filter for all News articles that contain the tag “release notes”.
The “Release Notes” link (in TaxCycle, on the start page, under Support) is a link to the TaxCycle News page which also activates that filter. That link isn’t supposed to mean “here are the release notes for THIS release” - it means “here’s where you can find release notes for all versions/releases”.
