Has anyone tried to transfer an amount from a clients “RP” account to “RC”? I transferred $500 in October from a client’s RP account to the RC tax instalments thinking I was helping the client out because they overpaid on their payroll remittance and their corporate tax instalment was coming due. Now it’s February and time to file the T4s but the transfer has not yet been approved. In fact it’s nowhere to be found on the client’s account! I can’t even remember the exact amount I requested to be transferred. When I call CRA, the wait time is 1.5 hours and I’ve given up each time.
Unless you’re trying to avoid a PIER, in which case I’d spend the 1.5 hours waiting for a CRA agent on the phone. The other option is to simply try again - via RAC, but if it doesn’t go through in a few days, phone CRA before the end of the month.
What used to be “Revenue Accounting” is dead bloody slow now. They take FOREVER to get stuff done…it does - eventually, sometimes - happen.
Assume you selected “Transfer a misallocated payment”. Yes, the one we used to do that took about 15 seconds to post. Apparently not any more. That was a short-lived blessing (I think maybe it lasted a whole year?)
Thank you for all your replies. I called early morning (before 9 ET) and got through quickly. Apparently my transfer request wasn’t clear enough for them so they just cancelled it. No notice. But they said any transfer requests from a payroll account takes 90 days.
I know its a lot of work that I do not get paid for but I keep a scribbler with notes on requests to CRA… transfers, adjustments, etc and I review this list once per month and spend a bit of time on phone with an agent checking on these items… usually 2 calls… first call to Personal line and 2nd call to Biz line. I make notes and continue to follow up as needed. I have never been told CRA just decided they would ignore a request… ugh that is not nice.
Last mid-February, I requested that an overpayment be transferred from the RP account to the RT account. The HST was due end of March (annual filer). As the transfer was not done by the end of March, the client paid the full amount. CRA informed me that they had 180 days to process a transfer request. They finally processed it in November. I then had to request a refund from the RT account. That took 2 months.
Way back in the day, before everything was handled by the taxpayer online, this would be handled immediately by a single phone call with CRA (and no waiting time).
