Claiming caregiver amount for spouse

I can’t seem to find any clear cut answers on what infirmities would allow a person to claim the caregiver amount for their spouse.

In this case the spouse doesn’t have a DTC, but they were approved for and collecting CPP disability. Is the CPP disability enough to claim the caregiver amount?

You can claim the caregiver allowance in Canada if, at any time during the tax year, you provide support to your spouse or common-law partner who has an impairment in physical or mental functions.

Assuming you could use the credits, suggest the individual check with an authorized medical practitioner if they are also eligible for the disability tax credit. Note: If there is a charge to prepare the form, the cost is considered a medical expense because it related to income tax.

Based on my clientel, the disability tax credit is easier to get than the CPP disability benefit.
