I’m not sure if this has been mentioned before but I would appreciate being able to designate a specific form to open when the file is opened or rolled forward. I would like to use the “Notes” form to leave a permanent set of notes for staff and myself when preparing a return or to leave notes for the reviewer. It works much better if the form opens automatically when the user opens the T1 file.
@Kevin –
You can already do this…
Open the dropdown at the far right of the tabs and select “Save current tabs as defaults”.
If you want TaxCycle to open the default tabs every time the file is reopened, instead of remembering the tabs that were left open, you can also uncheck this option:
Thanks Cam. I’ll file that under “old dog, new trick”. I’ve been using this for three or four years and still find more useful things each year.
@cameron, when I go to do that, I don’t see a dropdown at the far right of the tabs. I see the star to hide the favorites bar, the circle to list all tabs, and the left and right arrows. No dropdown box (maybe that’s why I haven’t used this feature?!).
@kevin –
Click on the circle to list all tabs. The last item in that list is “Save current tabs as defaults”

Got it. Thanks
That is handy button I had never noticed before either.
Is the name a perfect match, or is there some difference in the punctuation or spacing? This works on the returns I have tested, so I need more information (like a file) to investigate further.
@Cameron the names never match exactly not to mention the fact I can have several slips with the exact same name. As I mentioned before, the name is a starting place but it is an very poor method to match up the slips. You need to look at the values on the slips as well and then remember where we linked the slip for future adjustments to the AFR that year.
I have also seen when I have only one slip and the name is close, Taxcycle wants to make a new one
It would be nice to have the option for the sidebar to open either to last used or to the default list, or a pre-selected list like we can for the tabs.
- Allow us to define the default T5008 and T3 export folders for each year so the exports will go to the proper place automatically;
Hyperlink ability for the Excel file;
Allow me to define the define the naming convention for the export.
For hyperlink, it’s already there: simply drop the excel file on a cell in TaxCycle and Voila!
Now that you mention it, I did know that.

When I select a option on the T1013 in the T1 module, the T1013 does not auto populate. The firm name lines get diagnostic messages that they need to be filled; however, clicking on the field does not fix the problem. You have to tab to get it to populate. I am sure something has changed.
-
b) If I download a slip from AFR with slip code 2, can we get a diagnostic and a quick fix to share with spouse at 50% if the slip is not set to the 50% Maybe the slip code should be a fill-able box on the slip screen;
-
c) Similar to the t1013 issue, I am finding that the T2125 does not auto fill properly when I start a new one. the client mane is not entered; however, When I try to enter it, it does an over ride. Once I clear the override, the form completes the cells in the header. Maybe I am missing a checkbox or something.
- Slip summary cuts the shares sold in half when sharing with spouse. Now I guess there is an argument that I only sold 50% of the shares; however, I think you are to show the complete number sold.
- I have ask for this before, When we have joint accounts for investments, I would like a section on the S4 or an S4worksheet to place the investment fees etc in 100 percent and allocate a percentage to the spouse like we do with the slips.

- while we are on the S4, would like to have a provision to transfer dividend income to spouse
- On the T5013 Slip… Box 030 (Total Capital Gains) is the total of Boxes 151, 153, 154, and 155 which should calculate automatically rather than being a manual entry.
Hmm, this could be user error?
Actually, you have to click in a cell for it to take and not on the coloured portion of the form. maybe accepting clicking on any portion of the form could be helpful; however, may not be possible.
- When completing the T1DD, it would be nice to have a quick fix to use the information entered on the spouses return.
