Every year I prepare tax returns under the CVITP volunteer program. I am using TaxCycle for the first time this year, and I would like to use the same software that I use for my paying clients.
When I click the “CRA volunteer” box in the T1 engagement screen it does not fill in the field #48700 at the bottom of the jacket. Otherwise it would work fine if I indicate no fee charged and insert my volunteer rep ID. Any chance this can be made to work?
I also prepare returns for my local CVITP program and used TaxCycle to prepare these returns when I started with the program many years ago. About 2 years ago, I had to switch to using UFILE for these as the CRA will only credit my local group for returns filed using this software which embeds the CVITP program reference and a CVITP AuthRep Group ID. Anything filed outside of UFILE does not get tracked since they no longer let us submit the manually tracking forms.
You may want to check with your program coordinator to see if that is also the case for your local group.
Also, when I select CRA Volunteer on the Engagement form line 48700 shows as YES for me. What version of TaxCycle are you on and what year are you in?
thanks for this. the volunteer program is being coordinated with CPA Alberta, and for whatever reason they use Profile rather than UFILE. In prior year for my practice I used Cantax, and they were fine with letting me use Cantax for the volunteer returns also as long as those fields were selected.
I am on the current release version of TaxCycle. The 48700 field appears at the very bottom of the last page of the jacket, and it remains blank for me. It does not look like the image in your message, where did you get that from?
That section at the bottom of the return is not allowed to be completed - it is for CRA use only. If you look at the CRA fillable PDF - you will see that you cannot edit it there either.
I have a related question: I also prepare returns with CVITP and really despise UFILE. I’d been using it to submit my volunteer authorization and then I switch to TaxCycle for the return itself but now that they have the “COIN” system in place, could there please be a place for us to “embed” the relevant COIN to TC so the organization still gets credit for the return?
Edit: seems the COIN system is just for UFILE - how is it they have such a stranglehold on the program, seems awfully anti-competitive…
