I called CRA today to obtain a transmitter number to file t-slips and was told by the CRA agent that transmitter numbers are no longer a thing with CRA and that if my tax software is requiring one, that I need to check to see if my tax software has been updated. I do have the most recent version, but am getting an error message. Anyone else hear this?
Depends what you mean by a “transmitter number”. In TaxCycle, you must enter the “account number” and “transmitter web access code”. Other software might use different terminology.
To get your WAC:
https://apps.cra-arc.gc.ca/ebci/njwc/waconline/entry
Then, your “account number” is whatever account you used to register for the WAC (i.e. xxx xxx xxx RP0001 or RZ001, etc).
The CRA agent might not have understood what you meant.
I ran into this issue as well with my first set of T4’s. I’ve never used the Transmitter ID in the past, so wasn’t sure if it was new. I called CRA (the number online specifically for Transmitter ID) and was assured that we do not need this. I will continue to submit as I have in the past, under my RepID and hopefully have no issues, fingers crossed!
I wish you luck, but I think you’ll find that it has changed - you DO need a WAC to file slips. I’m not sure who you talked to at CRA, or which number you called, but they probably are getting confused if you use the term “transmitter ID”. What you need to ask for is a “Web Access Code” and you don’t have to phone them to get one (see link in my earlier post).
