I called CRA today to obtain a transmitter number to file t-slips and was told by the CRA agent that transmitter numbers are no longer a thing with CRA and that if my tax software is requiring one, that I need to check to see if my tax software has been updated. I do have the most recent version, but am getting an error message. Anyone else hear this?
Depends what you mean by a “transmitter number”. In TaxCycle, you must enter the “account number” and “transmitter web access code”. Other software might use different terminology.
To get your WAC:
https://apps.cra-arc.gc.ca/ebci/njwc/waconline/entry
Then, your “account number” is whatever account you used to register for the WAC (i.e. xxx xxx xxx RP0001 or RZ001, etc).
The CRA agent might not have understood what you meant.
I ran into this issue as well with my first set of T4’s. I’ve never used the Transmitter ID in the past, so wasn’t sure if it was new. I called CRA (the number online specifically for Transmitter ID) and was assured that we do not need this. I will continue to submit as I have in the past, under my RepID and hopefully have no issues, fingers crossed!
I wish you luck, but I think you’ll find that it has changed - you DO need a WAC to file slips. I’m not sure who you talked to at CRA, or which number you called, but they probably are getting confused if you use the term “transmitter ID”. What you need to ask for is a “Web Access Code” and you don’t have to phone them to get one (see link in my earlier post).
sorry, old thread…i’m trying to do this for the first time…i personally only have a RC and RT account…to transmit slips for clients, do I need a RP or RZ number first? and then a WAC?
Not sure. Since I have an RZ account, that’s what I used. I think other practitioners (here on the forum) have said that an RP account works, too. But, best to call the EFILE helpdesk and ask.
I called in and they said that transmitter codes are required in 2026 (for 2025 slips & returns)
They issued me at RZ and RP WAC code.
I entered one of those to TaxCycle and now I can transmit anything. I had thought I would have to switch back and forth between RZ and RP (as the agent told me) but I do not. I simply entered the RP account and WAC and everything has worked great.
so I called today…lady told me I cannot simply create a RP account to get a WAC code. She told me all my clients need a RP account (which they have) and I would need their WAC code to file via the software…
I don’t need a RP account for myself as of yet so I don’t want to register for one.
Looks like maybe I need the RZ account and then get a WAC?
Not true. That’s what CRA wanted us to do originally (like 15 years ago), but nobody does that. TaxCycle was designed with the knowledge that CRA’s system allows us to file all our clients’ slips using OUR OWN account and WAC.
If you don’t have a RP account yourself, and CRA won’t let you set one up, I would try to set up a RZ account (i.e. for T5 filing) and use that.
