T1 Print Sets No Longer Working

I can’t be certain who’s issue this is (well… obviously mine today :slightly_smiling_face: ) but for some reason I can’t for the life of me get a T1 return to print anymore.

Earlier this morning I completed a T1 return for a late filer. Everything seemed to go smoothly. I have the following print sets configured (Office Copy, T7DRA Remittance, Client Copy, and PDF Copy). These have not been changed in years. The first 3 print sets are sent to a physical printer, whereas the last print set prints to a PDF file (presumably TaxCycle internal pdf writer).

When I printed the T1 return the only thing that happened was the PDF file was created. When I clicked on “Print Selected” everything appeared to go fine. The only thing is the print job was never sent to the physical printer. It goes through the routine of “spooling then formatting” and it ends as normal, but that’s it. If I open the printer dialog box on the printer (print que) the print job never gets there. If I try to edit the printer within the print/pdf area of TaxCycle most of the time TaxCycle crashes (simply closes). If I go into my control panel and change the windows default printer (I have 2 physical printers and a couple of pdf printers) I get the same result. The print job simply does not get sent to any of the printers.

I can print single forms within the T1 module without any problem.

I have tried rebooting my computer, cycling the power on the printers but nothing seems to work.

Oddly enough, the software has no problem printing T2 returns and T5018 returns (both of which I filed & printed yesterday) and tried again today.

This issue only seems to be impacting the T1 module for me… wierd.

@snoplowguy If you want to send us the file/logs into our support team we can take a look at what’s happening for you

I am narrowing it down @aaron.doucet.cpa

I have the “Clinvoice” and “Joint Invoice” set to print as part of the paper print sets. If I remove this form from the print sets then the T1 return seems to print fine.

I see that I am now unable to print a client invoice as a single form. I am wondering if this is possibly because I have an image / business logo imbedded as part of the invoice? It never used to be an issue.

I know how to send you the file. Not sure how to find or send you the logs.

{edit: found the logs}

Same issue.

The previous version everything worked, now I get an error see below:

Did you downgrade to version 16.0.63993.0?

Version 16.0.64702.0 has printing issues.

I haven’t had problems, so far, printing a T1 except that my print sets keep printing the wrong version of the client invoice. I didn’t change my print sets to choose some other form but somehow the invoice template for Estates and Trusts comes up instead of the invoice template for normal T1 returns. It hasn’t been a big issue obviously since we’re not in T1 season but I will need to lock this down sometime.

@aaron.doucet.cpa

I have securely sent a copy of the T1 file I was trying to print, the latest log file from (help -->log files), a copy of my invoice template(s), as well as a copy of my logo.jpg that is imbedded into my invoices.

I’m pretty sure the client invoice is the offending culprit in my case. If I remove the invoice from printing in the T1 options everything prints fine. If I include the invoice the return does not print. I can individually print all forms except the client invoice. If I try to print that as a single form it shows that it is printing on the computer screen but no output is sent to the printer. If I try to “change printer” while in “print single form” TaxCycle simply closes down.

If I was to guess, I would say it could be the image in my client invoice that TaxCycle no longer likes.

We experienced the same issue earlier today. However, when the invoice was removed, there were no issues with printing or saving the invoice as a PDF.

This related to Known Issue: Template Print Error Related to Microsoft Update - TaxCycle. When we updated the font to Arial in the invoice templates, we were able to print and save the invoices without errors, both with and without using the print sets.

Thanks @sataxes

That was the answer to the problem.
Apparently it’s not just a Windows 11 update issue… Windows 10 got caught as well.

I didn’t receive any errors while attempting to print… just nothing would happen while printing. Now that I changed the client invoice & joint invoice to “arial” everything seems to work again.

I guess you don’t need to look any further @aaron.doucet.cpa

This place is great. :slightly_smiling_face:

@kevin

I don’t know if I can offer much help, but if you If you go to the Template Editor, then scroll down to the Client Invoice under the 2025 T1 section does it look like the correct template? If so, you can clone it and select all of the tax years that you want this to apply to (where it says This replaces the built in template CInvoice for T1).

Sounds like it is related to this issue.

Update to the new release.

We just released an update to temporarily support these issues.
