T1 correction for Marital Status and address

I need some suggestion on the issue.

There was a misunderstanding that client said he wants to file separately but my staff thought the taxpayer wants to file as single.

Now, what is the best resolution for that. Should we “Dismiss the Filing status” and transmit again. The Notice of Assessment has been generated and will be mailed on June 15th.

or if there is any other better way out to resolve this issue. Please and thanks

I seem to recall the CRA info blurbs saying something about marital status being one of the things you could change through my account and you might be able to change it retroactively. Otherwise just write a letter requesting the change and send it to the CRA.

What if we dismiss the prior transmission and refile?
Does that create any issue, just a curiosity?

That I don’t know - amending the return and refiling might work. If you can’t change it through rep a client however then refile probably won’t work either.

The dismiss in Taxcycle has nothing to do with CRA.

This would be to dismiss the confirmation number and filing status within Taxcycle. If you need to refile a tax return, Taxcycle requires you to perform this step.

CRA will allow you to Refile and Amend a tax return AFTER the NOA has been issued. You have an issue date for the NOA that is in the future. Therefore, you will need to wait until that date and then amend the tax return.

If no actual lines on the tax return change, then CRA may not allow this change.

I would strongly suggest calling her CRA ( since you have many days before the assessment happens) and ask for their guidance in this matter. CRA is always changing rules and this is a very odd situation that may require a letter on your letterhead indicating your firm made an error. Even still, the taxpayer may still have to prove to CRA they are still together to get this sorted.

Best of luck… when you do find an actual answer.. if you could update the group on the current rules, we would love the follow up.

Sure, will do. Thanks
