I have been using the Kodak ScanMate i1120 for several years. In the recent tax season the quality of the scans has been degraded, and I plan on replacing the scanner. What is the current best replacement?
Part of the answer depends on whether you’re going to use the scanner’s software or the software through another program. My document mgmt software handles the scanning details and just uses the scanner’s scanning ability. I use a Brother ADS2400N. It’s a few years old but works well. I also have an Epson and ScanSnap at other desks in the office. All work well.
I’m still using about a 15-year old Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500…fast, efficient, excellent. Apparently the new ones are even better.
i switch from the model you have the kodak i1120 to the Epson es-580w have bought 3 this year and bought through amazon for 426 each delivered and are certified refurbish great buy
FYI…my scans on my Xerox Documate 3120 were also deteriorating, but I found the method to clean the scanning glass online, performed the cleaning and now it scans like new!
I’ve relied on the FUJITSU iX500 for over a decade in a high-demand office environment, secretly hoping it would fail so I could upgrade to something newer — but it simply refused to cooperate. It’s the most stubborn piece of equipment I’ve ever owned.
I am using the same ScanSnap model as you. I think I purchased it after we had this identical conversation some 15 years ago when we were all members of the Deathstar community.
Several Windows updates ago I remember having issues with the drivers, sometimes I would have to re-install the scanner. FUJITSU said that scanner was too old and would no longer work with the latest versions of Windows o/s. Somehow about a year ago the scanner started playing nicely again with Windows and has been running rock solid for the last year.
The FUJITSU ScanSnaps were the absolute best desktop scanner, but the only issue is they were not TWAIN compliant. This may have changed by now, but they used their own proprietory drivers. Any applications requiring TWAIN drivers would not automatically detect the ScanSnap as a source.
If this trusty ScanSnap 500 ever bites the dust I would certainly replace with the same brand.
I’ve got an old HP multifunction device that I inherited a decade or so ago. Have been using the NAPS2 app with it and find it’s quite user-friendly (as I’m not a super fan of the HP app)…
