Scanned slip recognition

I am having an issue with DoxCycle consistently recognizing the box contents of slips incorrectly. The DoxCycle file will have almost all of the slip data incorrect, causing me to have to manually key in each box of every slip. I am using Scansnap to scan the PDFs in. It does not seem to matter if the slip is scanned in or if it is an electronic copy that was not a scan - they are all displaying incorrect data.

Is there settings that can be changed to make this work? I don’t think that my expectations are too high, as this is I have mentioned that this is a problem with slips of various sources and of all quality.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

We are aware that the data extraction for slips is degraded. We are looking at how and/or if we should address this.

  1. How important is the data extraction on slips since AFR was introduced?
  2. Do you post slips to TaxCycle or primarily use it for other documents like medical/donations?
  3. If you had to choose between improving the document classification (fewer unclassified documents) or the data extraction - which one would have more impact for you?

Data extraction has more impact, as the classifcation we can do manually on our end and AFR doesn’t always have the slips we have.

To clarify, DoxCycle cannot extract the data from a T4 that was printed to PDF directly from TaxCycle. This would be the absolute ‘cleanest’ slip that it can get.

  1. Data extraction is very important. AFR will not have all slips. Also, data extraction is used as a confirmation that AFR aligns with the client provided slip.

  2. I post slips to TaxCycle and will match the AFR downloaded slip with the posted slip. Medical I will generally not post unless it is just one or two items I usually use excel to tally it up and link the excel into the medical box as backup.

  3. At the moment, it feels like the slip classification is not too bad, but the data recognition is very poor. More room for error in my opinion having to manually key in each slip, so I would say data extraction is more important. My opinion is that this should not be a one or the other case though.

I would say data extraction if it was better than the unclassified may become better and this early in the year afr is useless

I don’t know how to use Doxycle. After scanning all my clients’ tax slips and receipts, I saved the PDF files on my computer.

Is there a way to easily store PDF files in a Doxycle file?

I’ve been using TaxCycle for a while. I use a Casio adding machine to tally my medical receipts, print out the total, then photocopy it, scan it, and save the file.

Is there a way to link an Excel file to a TaxCycle file?

Yes, you can link files to TaxCycle. Drag the file onto the field where you want it referenced and a link will show in the :link:Link section of the sidebar.

Or you can access the linked file from the field where it is attached.

DoxCycle is a document management software where you can aggregate all your client’s receipts received in various formats, including PDFs, into a single organized PDF file that can be opened with any PDF viewer.

Supported documents are listed on this page: DoxCycle - TaxCycle

Thank you! It works wonderfully. I can now link to clients’ source files.

Thank you. When I opened DoxCycle, I noticed it still has last year’s version installed. Like TaxCycle, is there a news feed or update alert in DoxCycle? Should I check the TaxCycle website to see if a new version is available? DoxCycle is included with my package.

Normally, you can check for updates on the start screen by clicking the green download button.

If you are still using a version from last year, you will need to get the full download from our website.

There is a news feed in DoxCycle that shows on the Start screen and is where releases are announced. To update your settings, go to Options > Start Screen.

Thank you, Sarka. I followed your instructions and successfully installed the latest version. This year, I plan to use DoxCycle with a few clients who are likely to undergo CRA reviews for medical or donation receipts.
