I am preparing a tax return for a person who was in BC in 2020. Can rent paid be claimed in BC tax return? If so, where do I enter it?
I file BC returns regularly and I have never heard of rent being deductible except as part of home office expenses for self employed or employment expenses. A specific deduction for rent not tied to anything else is Ontario only as far as I am aware for the Trillium Benefit. BC does not have an equivalent program.
I search on BC and I did not find anything regarding rent to be claimed. Thank you.
Maybe you should learn other provinces like Ontario does rent or property tax under form on-B i had to learn every province and territory taxes
