Paper file issue

Hello,

I have to file a couple of young people (18 years), who are first-time filers.

I keep getting the error message for first, middle, last name and date of birth.

I matched everything the same as on SIN, but still getting this message.

I called CRA yesterday, and the solution was to mail the T1, but not more than 5, as I will be penalized $25 per extra paper return, as it is under my efile number. OR i fill maully a full T1 package and let the client sign and mail it out.

MY question:

Is there a way to print a T1 copy without my efile info so I can print and let the client sign instead of I manuually creat it?

Thanks in advance

Go to the T1 and delete your information on the bottom of page 8 before you print.

I’ve called efile help desk when I could not get the name right, they wouldn’t tell me, but would nudge me in the right direction. Twice is been someone with 2 middle names and I needed to remove the space so it was like on long middle name.

Which is illegal…

It’s illegal to print it out for them to file themselves? I’ve never actually had reason to do that, but good to know.

Have you tried every combination:

As in first name field= First name plus all middle name

first plus one middle name

or no first name, all names in middle name field, etc.?

It is quite an exercise and as others have said.. sometimes a space, sometimes no space.

I would suggest, write out on a piece of paper every possibility and keep crossing out until you get it.

Most common I have seen is all names in the first name field

Otherwise, do you already have 5 tax returns you would mail in ? I have never hit the 5 mark.. so I would put this one return towards it.

If you efile more than 5 returns for a fee per year, you are required to efile all returns unless an efile exclusion applies. Having the client file it on paper would violate this requirement.

Oh gee.. I read that wrong… sorry all.. I never paper file unless exclusion so I guess I never really paid attention.

How are you going to explain to them they have to file it themselves, if they are paying you for that service?

In other words, how are you going to tell them you do things illegally?

I’m not. I just answered the question. You can alter what’s in those fields. I switch it to not paid for the charity returns I do, so I knew it could be done by overriding the fields.

I have also never paper filed a return that didn’t have exclusion so I’ve never even hit 1, let alone 5.

The 5 returns refers to the number of returns you prepare for a fee, not the number of returns you file on paper.
