In Profile software, I can open a T2 using either company name or business number. In TC, only business name can be accessed. If you only have business number, you have to do a search in client manager or the entire computer which is not reasonable.
Another drawback in T1, is opening a file under the spouse’s name. For example if you save the file for Steve Johnson and Mary Rogers, and save it under Steve, you will be unable to open a file under Mary and have to do a search again.
I tried TC for the first time last year but because of these two drawbacks, I am not sure if I want to do it again. Do you know any updates about these two issues?
I’ve never had such a problem. Once the Client Manager is properly configured, it finds anything - by first name, last name, business name, SIN, BN, or anything else you want. The only times I have had to open a file using the File>Open dialog is when one of my remote staff creates a file, copies it to our Sync drive, and my local TaxCycle server hasn’t indexed it yet.
If Client Manager isn’t finding what you want, it’s probably not configured properly. Contact Tax Cycle support for help with that, or search related threads here on this forum.
We only file T1s; in the file open box, top right corner we search the name (and can use spouse with different surname) and find the client file that way instead of searching by exact file name; works very well; otherwise, agree that client manager works well too.
