Per the EFile Association of Canada:
We are very happy to report that after many meetings with the CRA on the proposed initiative to introduce mandatory electronic notices of assessment (E-NOA) for T1s, the implementation of this initiative has been abandoned. The use of E-NOAs for individual returns is now on a voluntary basis.
This is an important win for all EFilers. The proposed initiative would impact tax preparers directly as many would need to print the E-NOA for their clients if their client could not access the NOA through the My Account portal. It was presumed by the CRA that tax preparers would assist their clients in setting up My Account for them (during the busy tax season, no less). This new process was expected to start in February 2024.
One less thing to change, do and amend to satisfy the ever-downloading-on-us bureaucrats at CRA.

This gave me a chuckle. Why on earth would the CRA expect us to register a MyAccount for clients when the entire process is big pain the butt. Let alone the unnecessary change they’ve done with the MyBusinessAccount authorization process. I’ve already been dropping clients that haven’t registered for their MyBusinessAccount and the same would’ve gone with this. At least I’m thankful that the E-file association is doing something with the membership fees.
This is a win… so many of my client do not have My Account.
They do not want my account.
Many are not computer literate… really not everyone is 20 something and have amazing cheap internet.
In rural areas access to reliable internet is still a big problem and when you can get it the costs are not justifiable.
Nothing wrong with paper notices… Canada Post is happy to deliver.

Well, they already fooled us into doing their data entry plus doing their initial audit work for them for free. I, too balk at setting up My Account, or My Business Account. As it is, my clients have no idea of the work I do in the background, keeping my copy of their data in sync with CRA.
