Canada Carbon Rebate Rural Supplement Rejection amount owing letters

In the last 2 days I had a dozen clients get letters rejecting their carbon rebate rural supplements even though they are all entitled to it and DO NOT live in a census metropolitan zone. Their addresses have the name of a town that IS in the zone, but they are all outside the town and zone, and I have checked every address on the official census maps.

I suspect the CRA just saw the name of the town on the map and re-assessed everyone living in the area with the name of the town in their legal address. Did anyone else have this happen to them recently? How do you dispute it? Just tell the CRA to look at the map or is there a more formal process? Do I attach the Census map .pdf in a re-file?

Wait until after the Election and call your (new?) MP. Let them do the work - it tends not to matter what their party is as they often do “favours” for each other. If there are quite a few people involved that is actually likely the most efficient route once a new Minister of Revenue is announced.

Alternatively (and personally I like this better) file a zillion Notices of Objection and just hammer CRA.

There are people who do not qualify. I saw one client that had some claim it for Burlington a few years ago.

The deadline was April 2.
