AuthRep Changes

We have been transmitting T1 returns using TaxCycle, and for a few clients it has come back to say that CRA sent them a message that said “Your authorised representative has changed” and they didn’t initiate the change. It’s always directly after we transmit returns. I tried calling TaxCycle but didn’t have any joy. Has anyone else experienced this, or do you know what I’m doing wrong? We have changed the authorization from “Select a type” to “valid authorisation already on file and accepted by CRA”, but we still seem to have this issue. It has happened to more than one client, and none of them have made any changes. Is it possible that a print set is wrong?

It happens. It happened last year. Can’t figure out a pattern, bc it doesn’t happen on every return. Beats me, but it’s annoying. I suspect CRA, not TC.

Agreed, it happens to our firm too; and not everyone; I think it is CRA and not Tax Cycle; I try to give my clients a heads up and let them know nothing has changed on our end, but that they may get that email about authorized rep changed; annoying and sometimes concerning to our clients.

I have about 5 each year. No reason why from CRA. Most clients are a bit concerned at first. I think they assume I’ve retired. I just tell them I hope the new guy is nicer than the old one.

I’ve had it happen a couple of years back. I may have changed something when I renewed my efile account the prior November. Might have changed my position from “officer” to “president”. Or, typed over an existing space with the same information. But, clients will definitely be concerned. They can always check to see who all is an authorized rep. The disability tax credit guys have the client allow them as a rep.

Ah - I too did have some when I had to change my Postal Code (Canada Post did that…). Got a batch of them after doing that…no change to firm or address….just postal code.

I get a bunch of them as well, and have made absolutely no changes to my account.

I wonder if this is something that Steve Watson & the Efile Association of Canada might be able to look into?

Good idea!!
