I was reading through some posts from 2024 regarding the frustration of having clients get access and the red paperclick icon that shows their portal is disconnected.
I’m trying to love Taxfolder but I am finding this process very clunky. Here is my example.
I finished a T2 return. I sent them a signature package through Taxfolder. I have the option to “Request signature” on the print set options, and I have a check box in the “Invite new client to Taxfolder”
They signed the document. I went into Taxfolder and dragged and dropped their PDF return copies to the “Prepare Files” section in the 2025 engagement that is showing where the signature is.
They can not access the file and that red icon is next to their name.
Why? Why is this process so clunky? Is th engagement completed becuase they signed off on the T183 doc that I sent previously? I don’t want to send the completed T2 package until I get the signed T183. I don’t want to need to go into Taxfolder and set up some sort of new engagement.
There must be a better way for you (Taxcycle people) to have this set up
When TaxFolder was first introduced, some firms wanted the ability to opt out of the client portal features. For this reason, we allow TaxFolder to be used exclusively for electronic signatures through email (i.e. Request Signature and Request Approval print options) and allow users to optionally invite clients to connect to a Client portal to support file sharing (i.e. Share files print option and client document upload).
To connect any new client to the portal, an invite can be triggered by checking the box to “Invite new client to TaxFolder” in the TaxCycle print dialogue:
If the client already exists in TaxFolder, then you can no longer invite them from TaxCycle (even if you select the invite box on print). You can send and/or resend the invite from the client list tab in TaxFolder or from the engagement view.
Hopefully that helps. We do recognize that there are some areas where this process can be improved and we are reviewing where the friction points are so we can work towards making this smoother.
OK, so just to be clear – for the 900 clients that I have sent signature packages to over the past three years, the only way that I can open a portal for them to upload documents is to manually go into each client and resend the invite?
The connection only needs to be completed once and remains in place unless the client wants to reconnect for some reason - ie they change their email address and/or need to set-up a new sign in account.
OK, so I’d really like to give my clients the ability to upload and have access to the portal but, as I mentioned, I sent out signature packages first without an invite to the portal.
Is there a way to purge my taxfolder file? Should I cancel the subscription and resubscribe under a different email? Then I could go through and send out a bulk email through Taxcycle that would invite everyone to the portal?
