I have several high net-worth clients with significant investments. Whereas the summaries do help me, I need some reliable software which will track the ACB of shares (brokers’ statements are at times very unreliable). Often, even T5008s omit the crucial data about the cost (or shows inaccurately).
We are currently using excel spreadsheets, but with significant volumes, the task becomes very tedious and also prone to errors.
Someone recommended Quicken or MS Money - but I believe both have become things of past.
Any suggestions?
For me Excel is still the best. Download the transactions - not the summaries - database them and then do what you need to. But I’ve personally never run across anything that works well that doesn’t cost zillions. Will be interested to hear what others have to say.
I also recommend Excel. I don’t really do much of that tracking. I tend to rely more on the brokers but I realize they sometimes aren’t so good at tracking/reporting non resident transactions. Is it possible to get electronic transaction reports from brokers? That would really help, especially for investment corporations.
I don’t know about “brokers” in general, but both Odlum Brown and TD Wealth (Waterhouse) have been very accommodating and advisors can either generate CSVs or investors on their platforms can (some of them anyway).
I have used this for a number of years: TJPS Software Write-Up in the Cloud - Wealth Write.Up
I use ShareSight to track my personal investments but idk if it would work as well for a client.
