SERs Confirmation Number in TaxCycle is "not valid or incomplete" on CRA

On June 17, 2025 we used the SERs - Special Elections & Returns Transmission Service in TaxCycle T2 software to submit a T2054 CDA Election. TaxCycle reference:

T2 Special Elections and Returns (SERs)

• We have EFILE credentials.
• We transmitted the form - it was accepted - and we received an 8-digit numerical confirmation number.
• We then attached and tried uploading the documents but kept getting ERROR 1416.

Unfortunately the error code just says:

CRA is experiencing technical difficulties connecting to the Special Elections and Returns Internet filing service. Contact CRA’s Special Elections and Returns Internet filing Helpdesk toll-free (within Canada/United States) at 1-800-959-9236 or collect (outside Canada/United States) at 613-221-3232 for further information."*

• We could not get through on the phone.
• We kept attempting with no luck - and eventually got ERROR 1436:

CRA is unable to accept the SER E-Attachment(s) since the Special Election or Return was filed over 24 hours ago. Please use the CRA Portal ‘Submit Documents’ service or mail the documents to your tax centre.

• So, we went into Represent a Client to submit documents.
• We selected Special Elections and Returns (SERs) as the topic.
• We selected “Yes” we have a SERs Electronic Filing Confirmation Number.
• We entered our SERs confirmation number received in TaxCycle.
  
  

It didn’t work:

• So we tried submitting the files without the confirmation number.

• It went through and we got a Case Reference Number beginning with GDOC
  

  

• Now, a week later, we go to look if it was received.

• CRA shows no documents having been uploaded at all for that Case Number

So now what?!?!?

This sounds like an issue with CRA’s RAC portal? Have you had any luck trying to call them?

I can also follow-up on my end, but it may take a few days to get a response. Can you please email info@taxcycle.com and request a secure link where you can upload a copy of the file for us so I can grab all the transmission details?

Call Bob Hamilton. Or your MP. Or the PMO. Tell them we need CRA to function correctly or they won’t be able to COLLECT the revenue to fund their new defense spending initiative (particularly since they scrapped the DST).
