Quebec TP1 for Ontario Resident

I have a client who has a rental property in Quebec (Laurentian ski condo). He has been requested by Revenu Quebec to file a TP1. Hi net rental income was nil. No other Quebec income. How do I file this without changing his residence to Quebec from Ontario? I hate to sound clueless on this but I must admit I’ve avoided Quebec returns successfully for many years!

Leave his residence as Ontario. On the rental statement indicate QC and you will need to complete the multi-jursidiction form allocating 100% of rental to QC.

Do you have the module to file TP1 Returns?

If you don’t, you may need to discuss with Taxcycle about a licensing issue.

Because the rental income is NIL, you will not be able to generate a TP1 return through the automatic printing process. I suggest that you ensure that you leave $0.01 of income, which I believe will be enough to generate the return.

You may also prefer to suggest to your client that they would prefer someone who does Quebec returns. Because, if he has a short term rental, he may also have a Quebec sales tax obligations, which must be filed electronically.

Thanks @TimParris. Yes, I do have the module. I’ll try that .01 trick. I was confused because putting a Quebec address for the property was not generating the TP1.
