Does anyone use Nitro Pro for electronic signatures? their price is very reasonable. I tried HelloSign, DocuSign, and adobe sign, but never used Nitro. Appreciate if you can share your experience.
I used Nitro PDF years ago, as a free alternative to Adobe Reader, but no experience with Nitro Pro. Coincidentally, I just got this link in an email newsletter yesterday:
Which PDF software do you recommend for PC’s and why?
I have been using Nitro PDF since it was called PrimoPDF in 2010 upgrading only when upgrading my Windows OS or switching PC hardware.
Now I have sticker shock at the current NitroPro annual subscription at $240 CAD per year.
In the past I would buy it once at about $89 one time cost. Use it for 3 or 4 years at no extra charge. Buy again when switched PC’s or upgraded MS OS.
So…back to drawing board later tonight or sometime tomorrow… when I must chose and pay to complete my new PC installation. I am somewhat cautious before making the plunge since I had many horrid experiences with a variety of PDF software programs during the period of 2003 to 2012.
Nitro Pro
Adobe Acrobat Pro
WonderShare’s PDF Element

Any recommendations???

I use PDF Gear.
I use Kofax PDF which is now owned by Tungsten Automation. It works great and you buy only buy once and you are not forced to buy the upgrades.
I just downloaded and tried PDF Gear to check it’s ability to convert PDF to Excel. I tried 2 documents, one that had a table of data which I needed to manipulate in Excel, and the 2nd document was a simple rent receipt which had a graphic header that normally get pasted in Excel as an object. Both failed miserably, not being able to do these conversions. So a big NO for me on PDFGear.
I use a paid version of Adobe Acrobat Pro for most of my work, including electronic signatures. For converting to Excel, Adobe sometimes groups rows together into the same cells, so I try other software like ABBYY PDF Transformer which sometimes does a better job at matching cells. It’s hit and miss with the conversions. But PDFGear failed at capturing any conversion data. I’ve tried Nitro in the past too when it was free but haven’t used it in ages. Does Nitro do a decent job at conversions to Excel?
Does Kofax PDF do a decent job at file conversion to Excel, matching table cells to unique cells in Excel?
I’ve been testing both PDF X-change editor (single purchase) and SodaPDF (subscription). Both developed by Canadians and sold from here, but both now have ownership that is European.
Both are good and workable. X-Change has a rather ugly interface IMO and Soda is cleaner.
I used Nitro years ago. It was OK too. Cannot bring myself to pay for, or support, Adobe.
Biggest challenge for me is finding software that will extract PROPERLY from bank statements virtually all of which are PDFd and secured…Canadian ones not usually an issue as I can extract CSVs from client banking…but foreign ones are not so easy.
I use Adobe Pro for work and CutePDF Professional CutePDF :: Product :: CutePDF Professional for personal use. Occasionally, I also use iLovePDF - https://www.ilovepdf.com/
I use Adobe myself but it is a standalone version I bought many years ago - the version I am using is Adobe Pro version 10.1.16 which I installed in February 2012… One shot cost as this was before the subscription era. It still works great and does everything I need it to do just fine. I also have an Adobe Std version 17 that my assistants use. Also a one shot cost as this was before the subscription era too.
still have one of those on my computer at home, was bundled with Scansnap… Unfortunately, Windows 11 does not like those, so had to bite the bullet on my new machine, and the new versions of Adobe Standard or Pro are a nuisance…
You might want to take another stab at it Bert. I am still using my old bundled versions from the Scansnap purchases years ago.
Similar to @laurie - I bought a non-subscription 2015 version of Acrobat DC Standard for about $100 - bundled with a Dell computer purchase in 2016. Then I bought the 2020 version (same Acrobat Standard)for about $200 with another Dell computer purchase in 2021. Not sure if there will be a non-subscription 2025 version.
Each of those purchases allows me to activate the license on 3 devices at a time, but I never remember to DE-activate the licenses (i.e. if one computer isn’t being used for months, or gets sold/junked). Then it’s a hassle to phone Adobe and get them to clear all the active licenses (because there is no way to identify which of the activations belonged to that computer).
So, I’m on the lookout for something other than Acrobat, too.
I have a Volume Licensed version of Acrobat 9…but it eventually ran into problems with Server 2016 and more…MS changed “something” so it no longer performs properly.
