The ingenuity of that hackers is absolutely scary, however, the lack of action from the CRA is what really worries me. The unimaginable troubles of the affected individuals should get all the possible support from the CRA. What a waste of taxpayers money and lack of service. Shame on the CRA.

If a taxpayer has their identity stolen, they should

  • call the police,
  • call the CRA 1-800-959-8281 and follow up by sending them the police report,
  • the CRA ombudsman at 1-866-586-3839 8:15 am to 4:30 pm, Eastern time
  • and* your insurance if you have identity theft coverage.
