Client letter link to CRA My Payment

A client discovered this and told me about it several months ago, but I didn’t have time to report it then:

We generate a PDF copy of the Client Letter (“CLetter”) for every T1 we prepare, and email it to most clients. If the client owes tax, the Client Letter includes a link to CRA’s My Payment page (or more accurately, the page that describes how to pay, and includes a link to the My Payment page). If I click the link from within TaxCycle, it works fine. But, when I click the link in the PDF, it doesn’t go to the same URL - it goes to this URL, which gives a 404 error:

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/e-services/payment-save-me-pay-online.html

Does anyone else have this trouble? Or is something messed up in our template?

I just tried this and had the same problem.

Thanks for reporting this. I’ll take a look and see what we can do.

I was able to reproduce the issue. The template code is clean and has the correct link.

I believe this is an issue with rendering the PDF in whatever viewer is being used. I’ll ask Engineering to take a look and see if there is anything we can do on the conversion to improve the reliability of the generation of links.

As a workaround, I’ve found this short URL that seems to work properly when I use it instead in the letter: www.canada.ca/cra-my-payment and will update the letters for the next release.
