I’ve always been exposed to ProFile and Taxprep and never really considered other programs. After having bitter interactions with my CCH support over the years, I am just tired of working with them. Every ticket or email is just dreadful, and I’m finding myself begging for an acknowledgement.
I don’t understand whats the premium I am really paying for compared to Taxcyle? I work with private small businesses and don’t have complex returns. I am streamlined my caseware enough where I am able to import the GIFI directly into the taxprep and have the return ready within a few basic diagnostic clicks.
For T1 taxprep, its essentially the same, where I am downloading from CRA Connect and transferring the data. Nothing crazy and modified the client letter to include my structure and logos and do rely on the diagnostics to catch any errors I may have and sometimes guiding me through irregular returns. Does taxcylce do the same?
I am just disheartened with taxprep, I want to be rid of them. It just doesn’t seem worthy paying their fees as a sole practitioner.
I will be downloading their demo over the summer to see how I can integrate my workflow but would appreciate any tips and thoughts!
Also, can Taxcycle assist with file transfers? What would happen to my taxprep files from prior years.
Good morning,
I had the very same problems with taxprep, they just got way to expensive for a business my size (3 of us). I hated the thought of switching but I had finally had my last disagreement with CCH (Taxprep). I called TaxCycle got a friendly person to talk to immediately. I them downloaded the free 30 day version. I also watched numerous free videos. Found out the price comparisons.
WELL, that was about 18 months ago. I am.in my 2nd tax season. My only question now is, why didn’t I switch sooner. I highly recommend TaxCycle.

I switch last year to TaxPrerp online and it was the worst decision i ever made, The product is overprices and doesn’t do the basic things unless you pay for the most expensive option (adjusting your print order to how you want it). I found it very user unfriendly and this year i came back to TaxCycle
I cant imagine doing tax returns on an online/cloud version - itd be the worst having to go through different tabs and windows. Desktop just makes more sense for my workflows.
im just dreading for my 3 year contract to end next year. Hopefully i can share the same remarks with you.
I am making a pledge to campaign against CCH on linkedin once i find a viable product to promote
Anything Wolters Kluwer is extremely overpriced and buggy. Their interface is comparable to that of Adobe, which is functional, but has that small millisecond lag to it.
I tried it the first year when they had the online version, I almost signed up for the 3 years plan, but changed to Taxcycle, because they were just not ready, and price went up crazy after the first year
I used Taxprep back in 2000 at a new employer and had previously used CanTax. Both have the same owner, except CanTax is considered the snotty-nosed little brother. I honestly saw only one differencs and that was that Taxprep was a pain to use, and did no more than CanTax. In fact, CanTax diagnostics were better than Taxprep, for about 1/3 the price. Went to another CPA firm for 15 years or so, and they used CanTax. After starting my own practice, I went to a presentation on TaxCycle and bought it. Absolutely no regrets, except the price goes up horrendously. Current year is 15 or 16% higher than the prior year. I don’t know what I’ll do when I cut back my practice at 85.
@Deepinthemoneycall interesting!
I’ve never really experienced any bug or crashes yet in my career. Though I admit the interface is not easy to navigate.
Yeaht thats how they baited me. The first 2 terms they provided me a 50% discount which i thought would renewed. But they gave me a 20% discount after raising the price 10% on a 3 year term. I am just waiting my last year before switching.
I just know that i wont be using CCH no matter what.
