Way to secure. You just need to make it an image, make it a bit crooked and apply a “Sent through the photocopier” type photo filter to really rough it up so it passes http://lookslikescanned.com/
I can’t efile any of my US tax client returns as I am not a US citizen… That is a royal pain. I use ATX.
Hey Laurie, I believe you can get a PTIN to efile without being a US Citizen? https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/frequently-asked-questions-do-i-need-a-ptin
3. How do foreign preparers without a social security number obtain a PTIN? (revised 09/17/19)
A foreign preparer who does not have and is not eligible to obtain a social security number and is neither a citizen of the U.S. nor a resident alien of the U.S. as defined in section 7701(b)(1)(A) will need to complete the Form W-12, IRS Paid Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) Application and Form 8946, PTIN Supplemental Application For Foreign Persons Without a Social Security Number. This can be completed through your online PTIN account or by submitting a paper Form W-12 and Form 8946. Only preparers that have a foreign (non-U.S.) address may file this form.
I have a PTIN but you can’t apply for permission to efile without being a US citizen up to date on their tax filings. Having a PTIN just means I can paper file the returns. I haven’t figured out a way to efile anything yet and I spent some time looking. If I missed something or they changed it recently I’d love to know.
Hey Laurie. I see that you have to be have a SSN and be up to date on taxes for an EFIN but I don’t see anything about having to be a US Citizen. Do you remember where you may have seen that?
You have to be a US Citizen/green card holder to have a SSN. EFIN is for a US company. I don’t have either and can’t.
as a US tax preparer, was facing that issue until I started using CCH Prosystem Fx for US returns…
Now can do efiling through them.
That is very interesting. How much does Prosystems cost? I only do about 50 returns a year total and half of those are 1040NR’s which can’t be efiled in any case.
I have the same experience here
Prosystem is expensive. I have done the cost-benefit analysis, and for me it works, but that is not for everyone, especially if most your returns are 1040NR
Other Tax Softwares are already offerring Digital Signature features . When will Tax Cycle have this ability of Client Digital Signing ?
We are working on this right now, and expect to have more to share in a few days.
The integration we are focusing on is DocuSign.
Best regards,
~ Cameron
Hi Cameron:
OneSpan is another competitor product with Canadian presence that may be an option.

Right now no clients want to visit even in office and everyone is asking for electronic signature
Just got notification from CRA that electronic signatures valid until 31 Aug 2020 as a temporary measure.
Could you share the link please
Would be nice if Taxcycle had been released with Docusign integration right now…
I’m looking at using Docusign, any feedback from people that are using it? Because if possible, I’m going to get clients to sign while having a zoom meeting with them.
Just setting ours up but we intend to send them the documents to review and sign and then set up a phone meeting to go over it, they can sign afterwards.
We have been using in person digital signing for the better part of 6 years now.
CRA wants to see the ‘drawn’ signature without all the security documents of the either docusign or the others.
Hence, we moved over signnow with success! Very simple to manage, and the app has the ability to host to setup your own private in house server.
