Client’s return was efiled end of April and assessed May 5. NOA states “We are holding your refund until we update your accounts. We will then send you any remaining refund.” Client has no money owing on any other years or accounts. There was no adjustment done to prior years. Has anyone seen this? I’ve been trying to get in touch with CRA but like everyone else, am having no luck with phone calls. Any suggestions/ideas?
Been seeing it regularly lately… any associate corporate accounts not in compliance? Any T1OVP or other programs?
Client does have a corporation that was behind in filing but it was all filing caught up and balances paid by end of January. No T1OVP.
IMO it would be severe overreach for CRA to withhold a refund bc an associated corp is not in compliance…I’ve never seen such a thing
@albertenterprises are all HST and payroll filings/obligations up to date?
Check with your client whether he has an unfilled hst return and he didn’t find necessary to inform you about it. I had seen that many times.
I do all of his filings so I know everything is filed. I also confirmed that everything has been paid.
Nope (unfortunately). If the client is a Director of a corp that owes Payroll or GST arrears, they can withhold. Why? Because of Director liability for debt.
Had a client who was a director of a corp 20 years previously, sold it, CRA didn’t bother to update Director info from Alberta (which WAS updated)…and withheld a large refund until I proved to them that she was no longer associated with the corp.
Wow..TIL..havent heard of it before thx for sharing
