Northern Residents Travel Benefits - Clarification

If anyone has experience and confidence understanding Northern Residents Travel Benefits I would appreciate clarification on trips with multiple family members.

All of CRA’s examples are solo trips. What about family trips? If the family flies somewhere and the combined expenses and lowest airfare exceeds the $1,200 standard amount can multiple family members claim a portion of the same trip? Hypothetically, let’s say the travel expenses and LRA is $3,800 for one trip for a family of four. Can three members claim the full $1,200 standard amount and the fourth $200?

The lowest return airfare is for each individual - as if that person flew by themselves. The ACTUAL expense can be split between each family member - I’ve never had CRA question the “split” amount.

Thank you for the response. This is what I have also been doing (splitting expenses) but I haven’t had Northern Travel reviewed since CRA introduced the standard amount. Which actually surprises me. It used to be every other year I’d see one review for it. Maybe the covid induced backlog has diverted their resources.
