New Process To Add Business Number to CRA Account

Just a heads up that the CRA seems to have changed things up on how to add new business numbers to your CRA profile, and now you have to call them unless you’ve filed a return already, as the new process requires lines from a T2 or GST return to be entered.

I didn’t believe my client when they reported it to me and then I tried to do the process myself and saw what she did. So now everyone has to try and call CRA to get business numbers added before they can log in and authorize us as reps on the number.

I am Jack’s sense of futile rage.

EDIT: Screenshots of the process are in the replies

I knew there was a reason I like you best

could you explain a bit more?

It used to be that you go into CRA my business account and add the business number, which works as long as your name is properly affilated with the business.

Are you saying that this does not work anymore, and there is a revised process?

You met me at a very strange time in my life. :slightly_smiling_face:

That is correct. I went through the process againand posted some screenshots below to show everyone the new process.

Here’s screenshots of what your clients will see when trying to add a new business number to their CRA profile. This is the first screen they get when they click “add business number” and putting in all zeroes and a year end doesn’t work. CRA confirmed you have to call them unless you have information from a filed return to enter.

Ditto, my friend. Ditto. Taxes is definitely not where I thought I’d be quoting Fight Club but here we are

Good luck calling. We have started to make all requests by mail. We are fortunate to be close to two tax centres with drop boxes in front.
