My clients are a married couple who each want to claim only their own medical expenses. They want to keep their finances separate and so do not want to combine medical expenses. How do I accomplish this? I have tried the optimization and medical expense worksheets but they do not have a choice for this.
I would tell them how much they would save if they combine the expenses and the one that is getting the claim pays half of the savings to the other. Problem solved.
What about uncoupling the returns?
Good old fashioned override should do the trick.
