My friend paid $40,000 for a lifetime franchise to operate a mobile accessory shop. How is that cost treated? Can he claim CCA on it?

Unless your friend has a fixed date of death, it’s not class 14. Only franchises with a definite term go there. Unlimited franchise fees are class 14.1.
