I believe I know the answer however I am asking the community if they ever ran across a Massage Therapist wanting to expense their personal trainer costs based on the reasoning “to maintain their strength” for their practice. Thoughts?
Do they have a special ruling?
Hard no… from my perspective

Allowable medical expenses are clearly defined, and limited by those definitions. In this case No, not on the list.

You might as well claim food then too. If you don’t eat, you don’t have any strength to do your work

I think the deduction is possible. I have two sons who are professional athletes. I deduct their gym fees that are not reimbursed. Is not a medical expense but as a deduction it can be justified.
Big difference between a professional athlete and a massage therapist. I doubt very much this would pass for the massage therapist (and I have a few as clients).
