Alberta Investment Tax Credit

We recently prepared a tax return for a client who accessed the Alberta Investment Tax Credit in the prior year. The full amount of the credit was applied to the 2018 tax year, and was reflected as much on their NOA. However, when rolling forward the file, the credit was carried forward (in full) to 2019. It went unnoticed as no one had entered it, nor was there any indication it had been rolled forward. It wasn’t until we had tried to e-file that we were informed that a the return could not be filed due to a tax credit that “does not apply to the province or territory of residence…” I don’t believe this was intended, and I suspect there may be others faced with the same issue.
