I’m doing a principal residence dispositon for a deceased taxpayer. It was a recreationqal property for a number of years after acquisition - so there is a capital gain. However it was purchased prior to Valuation Day . Executor can find no record of the VD price. Is there ny way to retrieve that?
In similar situations, I have the client contact a real estate agent/broker, familiar with the area and with sufficient experience, to provide an opinion of value for the property as of V-Day. This works for many properties in our area but can be difficult for unique properties. However, it’s the best you can do many times.

You can request that information from CRA if there actually was a VD valuation filed.
