Personal CRA Authorization

I do that to lots of my clients and take 20 days from the last call a few days ago (waited 50 minutes). But it does not give you online access.

I thought that if we created the authorization request online via RAC, which produces the new AUTH form for the client, then submitted this signed form in the new manner that I described above, we would receive access much quicker? What you describe seems to be the process to simply submit a paper AUTH form manually, as we could always do in the past? Can anyone else confirm?

The new method has been providing instant access for me.

I haven’t tried it yet for a deceased individual. I submitted the documents to add a legal rep for a new deceased client late last week, I thought i would give it a week or two before trying to add my self as a representative.

@mike are you talking about the AUT-01 form? That one is only for offline access.

Hi Mike! It typically takes around 2 business days. Check tomorrow & it might even be approved.

Thanks Amanda

Ah…this is what you mean Amanda?

Alternative process for individuals

You (or your legal representative) can also choose to authorize your representative using your information from a previous notice of assessment. If you choose this option:

  1. you must provide your representative with information from a notice of assessment that was sent to you at least six months ago

  2. your representative must provide this information when they submit their initial authorization request

  3. you’ll need to sign the certification page before they can submit it to us

  4. your representative will need to submit the signed certification page using the Submit button in their “Pending authorization requests” table in Represent a Client. Do not mail or fax a copy of the certification page to the CRA. These copies won’t be processed or returned to you

Even with this information provided, the CRA may still contact you (or your legal representative) to verify your representative’s authorization request. Your representative’s request for authorization will generally be processed instantly.

Yes it is.

Okay…the certification page is to be printed from the website after you enter all of the information? sorry…I was trying to follow the entire process without an authorization…

Yes exactly. Follow the prompts. It will walk you through it. Let me know if you have any other questions.

This is the BEST information I got this week!!!

FYI..submitted the manually signed auth form on Sunday, no access yet on Tuesday, called the CRA and was advised that it takes up to 3 business days using this method – stay tuned…

FYI & FWIW. I just uploaded another signature page and had immediate access.

Thaks Arliss, I did eventually get access, albeit 3 days after submission.

Like everything CRA does, there is no black or white answer for most solutions on turn around time. Glad you’ve got this method working for you now. :raising_hands: In our experience, all have taken less than 2 business days to go through so far.

I was surmising that this one may have taken a little longer since she had never filed a tax return before?

Same with ours, its the only time the signature page pops up as the only option for auth. It’s simply the russian roulette of CRA turn around times.

You can assist the client if they are present or obtain a power of attorney to set up the account for them. Once it is setup then you grant access to the Rep (yourself) and then pass the password and login ID to the client. It is alot of hoops to jump through but we are doing this for our clients.

We have our assumptions why CRA is forcing people online. It is a nasty game they are playing.

im a bit confused on one thing still…

i tried to set up the auth form from CRA portal…but it asked for tax return information of my client. How does one get access if someone has never filed a return, or not filed in a long time and dont have the information handy

this extra step about adding the tax return information seems like overkill
