I have a married couple clients. Husband passed last year. I’ve done the final return for him but it’s beneficial to do a rights and things return as well.
Is there a quick way (i.e pushing a button) to open a new return for him for Rights & Things that will transfer all his personal information, saving me the effort of inputting it all? Something like the carry-forward button?
I opened the terminal return, deleted all slips & other schedules, like medical, donations. Then save under a new name such as John Doe 70(2), and entered the income and deductions applicable to that return. Probably no faster than starting from scratch, but that’s how I handled it.

Would love a @TaxCycle webinar on how to prepare #Deceased Return and #Deceased Optional Rights and Things Return using TaxCycle efficiently and effectively
Here are three resources I found on this topic:

Types of returns
Depending on the situation, you may need to file more than one tax return:
T1 Income Tax and Benefit Returns
Final Return for income earned up to the date of death
Optional T1 returns to include income that would otherwise be reported on the Final Return, which may reduce or eliminate tax for the person who died
It is the seasoned preparer that can distinguish between warnings and errors. You are always going to get a warning that another return exists for that sin.
