Creating return for rights and things

I have a married couple clients. Husband passed last year. I’ve done the final return for him but it’s beneficial to do a rights and things return as well.

Is there a quick way (i.e pushing a button) to open a new return for him for Rights & Things that will transfer all his personal information, saving me the effort of inputting it all? Something like the carry-forward button?

I opened the terminal return, deleted all slips & other schedules, like medical, donations. Then save under a new name such as John Doe 70(2), and entered the income and deductions applicable to that return. Probably no faster than starting from scratch, but that’s how I handled it.

Or do a new carryforward, and delete the spouse…

I tried that but it kept reminding me that there were returns with the same SIN available and other ‘critical errors’.

I ended up creating a new return. It gave me less error notifications.

It is the seasoned preparer that can distinguish between warnings and errors. You are always going to get a warning that another return exists for that sin.
