Yes, go through the new RAC Authorization process and if she has never filed before, it should prompt you to download an authorization form, which you have her sign, then go back into that same area in RAC and you can “Submit” the form electronically, then a few days later you should get access – at least that’s how it worked for me ![]()
Ok good to know!
The form has been signed and submitted. Just waiting for the acceptance.
Thanks!
Has anyone successfully got an authorization for a first-time filer using the manual “sign form and submit via RAC” method in the past couple of weeks? I’ve submitted two – one has been 9 days and the other 4 days with no access yet? Do we call the General Inquiries number for more info?
Any further updates or insights? I have a very delinquent filer looking to get filed. Last filed in the 1990’s he believes and of course there is no available prior year info.
Arliss, here’s what I experienced the 3 times that I’ve had first-time filers…
1st one = used the manual signed form method submited via RAC, took about 5 days to get authorization
2nd & 3rd ones = used the manual signed form method submited via RAC, no access after 10 days, called the general inquiry line, they couldn’t tell me why it was delayed, nor was there anyone I could speak with who would be able to tell me. They suggested that I resubmit a new request, did so and still no access after another 10 days, so I gave up and just filed with the slips that I had, no RAC access. Complete incompetence!
I have a first time filer - his father agreed to just mail it in.
On another note, a client got me to try calling CRA yesterday - we were able to have a call back within about 15 minutes. I spent almost 3.5 hours on the phone with three different people - the first one asked what my question was about so she passed me on to the appropriate person. She handled my first two questions, patiently, thoroughly, competently. For the 3rd question I had, she passed me on to the appropriate person, who again was very thorough, very competent. She was explaining that even with more technical help they could not answer my question, but she interuppted herself - she just had an idea. When she came back again, I told her what the problem was. We both found it at the same time. For a call over 3 hours long, it was good. All three people were plain spoken and very knowledgable. What a break that was.
same situation here, Im still waiting after 15 days.
A glimmer of hope, I hope you didn’t jinx it by telling us ![]()
I sure hope not because I have several more questions requiring answers. But I can surely verify that AI or newby agents cannot ever answer all our questions. The questions they could answer, most of us have the answer faster than they can get it for us and we wouldn’t be asking.
Well. well. well…I checked this morning and the two long outstanding auth’s are now active!
My one submitted Oct 17 today for me as well.
Disappeared from pending and I now have access but strangely is not listed in the main list of authorized clients, at least with a last name search.
Exact same situation here – sounds like maybe their “system” was a bit wonky and they just flushed all the outstanding ones through?
OK - I need to do this for a new client …will see how this works now!
As an aside…when did CRA start making us download lists of clients “the next day (or scheduled)” instead of just seeing a list online (there’s incomplete BNs and SINs, so that seems really paranoid to me)?
I have had success in past month for CRA authorizations with new tax filers or new to us or deceased new to us; CRA must have added more competent employees; much better service now
I haven’t tried this trick yet but I’m about to, I have 2012-2024 to file for a client and a CPA partner told me her trick is to send the last one, with only slips available on hand for the LAST year, 2024. Wait until processed, then have the account activated by the client, access, then file 20212-2023 and correct 2024 if necessary. I’ll let you know how it goes!
yeah. It does work.
Does the signature page require a wet signature?
What is anyone doing for virtual clients? Email, they print, scan and return?
We send everything through TaxFolder for signatures
Has anyone done this authorization method yet for a deceased individual with more than one executor??
Yes; CRA will allow us to use just the one name; I put the primary name (the one who is the main contact) on the RC4111 Request to update records and that name is used on the Authorization page for the signature
