I think you are right, I am getting quite disappointed with Profile. I have been using it for over 10 years but it has become less user friendly. Is Taxcycle from Intuit as well? Are you happy with this software?

I carry a subscription to both Profile and TaxCycle.

I can tell you that TaxCycle is far superior to Profile by leaps and bounds. It seems after @Cameron left Profile they stopped putting much effort into improving the software. Every year they seem to make changes necessary for the software to calculate in accordance with updated tax legislation but nothing further than that. There are so many things that TaxCycle does or calculates intuitively that Profile requires a manual user entry or manual calculations.

In my opinion;

TaxCycle would be equivalent to Bluray
Profile would be equivalent to Betamax

Taxcycle is not from Intuit. After Cameron left Intuit, he developed his own product, starting with Doxcycle and shortly after that Taxcycle. A number of years ago it was purchased by Xero. Taxcycle and Doxcycle are great products, and the company is very sensitive to their user base, which is professional preparers only, not DIY preparers.

TC is the evolution of ProFile - most of the same shortcuts etc. work so I found it an easy transition and one that Iā€™m very glad I madeā€¦it has lots of useful additional features!
And some of of the questions I was seeing on the ProFile community - scary!

Cameron originally built CanTax, then Profile, then TaxCycle. I used CanTax from roughly the mid-1990ā€™s, switched to TaxCycle in 2017. Not a big learning curve, but a far better product, especially around installation and updates. Price has increased 57% since 2017, 16% last year alone. Thatā€™s way more than I can increase my fees to compensate. Hope this doesnā€™t continue.
